GRAND HAVEN — A local man pled guilty to reduced charges June 24 in connection with a January break-in and assault in Georgetown Township.
Jacarr Cox, 32, of Grand Rapids, pleaded in Ottawa County’s 20th Circuit Court to two counts of assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer and one count of domestic violence.
As part of the plea, charges of first-degree home invasion, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or strangulation, and assault with a dangerous weapon were dismissed.
Cox appeared remotely from Oklahoma, where he was recently sentenced for distribution of narcotics.
Authorities allege Cox broke into an apartment off Baldwin Street around 5:30 a.m. Jan. 8 and assaulted a 32-year-old woman he had previously been in a relationship with.
Police responded after receiving a 911 call from a child inside the residence, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. Cox was allegedly armed with a handgun and fled as deputies arrived.
Three children — ages 14, 9 and 7 months — were inside the home and were unharmed. The woman suffered minor injuries.
Cox is scheduled to be sentenced July 27.
