No one has a firm idea of exactly what Michigan football will look like on offense just yet. With Chip Lindsey taking over the coordinator position from Kirk Campbell, there’s a lot of talk about the passing game, downfield throws, Bryce Underwood, and the like. But, Lindsey insists, this will still be some iteration of traditional Michigan football.
Speaking with former Wolverines tight end Jake Butt at the Big Ten Network’s stop in Ann Arbor on Friday, Lindsey shared a little bigger glimpse at what the intention of his offense is, noting that his vision matches that of head coach Sherrone Moore.
If that’s true, the passing game will take off, but the team is also going to ‘SMASH!’
“It’s an honor for me to be here and have this opportunity,” Lindsey said. “And the DNA will never change. We’re gonna be a physical, tough football team. That’s what Coach Moore’s vision is. When we talked about this, that was our visions aligned in that respect. And so I think at the end of the day, I’ve seen our team grow in that area and really carry on this, being a former player here (talking to Jake Butt), that’s important to these guys to carry on that tradition. And so we’re continuing to do that.
“I think if you can run the football, I think it opens up a lot of things and that’ll be kind of what we’re trying to do right out of the gate.”
Fans will get their first real opportunity to see the new-look offense in action on August 30 when the Wolverines host New Mexico for the 2025 season opener at The Big House.
