MENDON — The Centreville boys claimed first place at the John Green Invitational held at Mendon on Friday. The Bulldogs piled up an impressive 207.5 points to win the event.
Union City was second (103), Mendon was third (57) and Colon finished sixth (32). Union City won the girls event with 153.5 points, Centreville came in second at 146. Mendon was fifth (35) and Colon was seventh at 28.
The Centreville boys won 11 of the 17 events. Matthew Bates claimed victory in both the shot put (45 feet, 6 inches) and the shot put (140-9). Brayden Swanwick’s leap of 6-0 was good enough to win the high jump.
Centreville ran to first place in three relay events. The 400 saw Bates, Deandre Stout, Carter Cartier and Ethan Miller post a time of 45.08 seconds. The team of Dylan Schwartz, Swanwick, Cartier and Stout ran 1:35.20 to win the 800 and the mile relay was won by Oliver Mildenberg, Swanwick, Brendan Sre and Miller run 3:33.42.
Will Hulin, who was voted the Journal’s Athlete of the Week last week, won both the mile (4:51.94) and two-mile (10:23.78) runs. He finished second in the 800 at 2:03.46. The 800 was won by Miller at 2:00.20.
Mildenberg was first in the 400 (53.50) and Stout claimed first in the 200 (23.30). Stout was second in the 100 at 11.34. Gavin Palmer finished second in the 110 hurdles at 17.77 and he was second in the 300 hurdles at 45.57.
Th two-mile relay team of Mildenberg, Micaiah Sylvester, Henry Sloat and Hulin posted a time of 8:49.17 for second place.
Centreville won five events for the girls. Kaylyn Coney was first in the high jump at 4-10 and Mary Stears tossed the discus 95-11 to win.
Coney, Arianna Six, Berkley Shingledecker and Ellie Reed posted a time of 4:19.27 to win the mile relay. Shingledecker ran to first place in the 800 at 2:36.90, Coney won the 400 run at 1:03.26.
Nevaeh Prichard was second in the 100 (13.97) and Coney was second in the 200 (27.73). Shingledecker came in second in the 400 at 1:04.24. Six placed third in the 800 at 2:46.99. Mara Webb’s time of 54.47 was good for second place in the 300 hurdles.
In the 800 relay, the team of Shingledecker, Prichard, Leah Roberts and Six ran a time of 1:56.57 for second. The two-mile relay team of Olivia Spanski, Autumn Schabes, Matilda Roberts and Patience Sweet-Jones was third at 12:37.81.
Lena Reed put the shot 31-7 for third. Leah Roberts was second in the high jump at 4-10, Matilda Roberts was third at 4-8.
Mendon’s Brianna Heitkamp won the shot put at 34-5. The Hornet team of Presley Allen, Michelle Gomez-Sanchez, Karyssa Holtz and Taylor Zinsmaster was third at 4:41.47.
Claire Haskins ran to third in the 100 hurdles at 18.83.
For the boys, the mile relay team of Owen Gorham, Ryder Gorham, Bryce Zagon and Zak Iobe was third at 3:47.44. The two-mile relay team of Ryder Gorham, Ben Iobe, Zak Iobe and Xavior Zinsmaster was third at 8:57.58.
Ben Iobe was third in the mile (4:54.98) and fourth in the two-mile (11:07.66) run. Zak Iobe posted 46.83 for third in the 300 hurdles. Zinsmaster was third in the 800 at 2:09.70.
Owen Gorham finished second in the 400 at 53.78, he was third in the 100 at 11.85.
Austin Cole of Colon was second in the long jump at 18-9.5. Jabari Fields posted a distance of 126-9 for third in the discus. Ruby Bower ran a time of 14.07 for third in the 100 for the girls.
Bower, Lily Preston, Sarah Hirschy and McKenzie Smith ran a time of 54.03 for second overall in the 400 relay. Preston finished second in the long jump, clearing a distance of 14-9.
