Fennville Public Schools looking internally first for new superintendent

FENNVILLE — Fennville Public Schools will begin the search for a new superintendent by evaluating internal candidates.

Fennville is looking for a new leader after parting ways with previous superintendent Doug Greer in January. The district announced Thursday, March 27, the replacement process will begin with an internal search.

“Selected candidates” will be invited for interviews during a special school board meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, in the board room at 5 Memorial Drive.

“The support of the Fennville community is sincerely appreciated during this leadership transition, and the voices of various members of the community will be called upon for input and feedback throughout the process,” the board wrote in the announcement.

Fennville is working with the West Michigan Education Research and Development Foundation.

Albert Lombard, principal at Fennville High since 2022, is currently serving as interim superintendent. Lombard has spent his entire career at FPS, previously serving as a middle school teacher and elementary principal.

The Fennville Board of Education voted 5-2 on Jan. 20 to approve a separation agreement with Greer, who began as superintendent in July 2023. In a statement, the district referred to the separation as “a mutual agreement made in the best interests of the district.”

At the time of the announcement, the board hoped to have a new superintendent in place by the end of the school year.
