USC star pitcher Mason Edwards officially signs with Attletics

What had long been expected is now official: Mason Edwards’s USC baseball career is over. On Monday, the Trojans’ ace signed with the Athletics, bringing his time with the Trojans to a close.

Earlier this month, the Athletics selected Edwards in the second round of the 2026 MLB Draft. He became the first USC player to go in the first two rounds of the draft since 2009.

Edwards finished the 2026 season with a record of 8-0 and an impressive 2.07 ERA. He struck out 169 batters, the most by a USC pitcher since Mark Prior in 2001. Last month, he became the first Trojan to earn first-team All-American honors in 11 years.

Per Martín Gallegos of MLB.com, the deal includes a signing bonus of $2.4 million. That is slightly above the slot value for the pick, which was just over $2.13 million.

Edwards is the first of USC’s 2026 draft picks to sign. The remaining three Trojans drafted—Augie Lopez, Grant Govel, and Adam Troy—have until Monday to decide whether they want to turn professional or return to college baseball for another year.
