One person was shot at an overnight event at Pensacola Beach early Saturday morning, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 2:46 a.m. this morning, the ECSO responded to a reported shooting at a private event hosted by The Wharf on the Quietwater Beach Boardwalk.
The Wharf was hosting an overnight event on its privately leased portion of the beach property charging attendees $100 per tent to camp overnight for the Blue Angels air show.
Deputies quickly secured the scene and launched an investigation, an ECSO Facebook post said. Initial reports indicated that the victim had shot himself. Throughout the investigation, the victim and any witnesses who may have observed the incident were uncooperative.
Despite the limited information provided, investigators conducted a thorough examination of the scene and collected all available evidence, the ECSO post said. Based on the preliminary information available, the physical evidence collected at the scene and the information investigators were able to obtain, it appears the 22-year-old male sustained an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Detectives are continuing to review available surveillance video and follow up on any additional evidence as the investigation remains active. There is no indication of any ongoing threat to the public, and no suspects are being sought in connection with this incident, the post said.
