BLOOMINGTON — Indiana basketball won a preseason exhibition 98-64 over Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf on Wednesday, July 15 at Assembly Hall.
The new-look Hoosiers got contributions from every one of their available scholarship players, while leaning on a balanced scoring attack. They had four starters in double-digits — Aiden Sherrell led the way with 16 points — and strong contributions from each the true freshmen who arrived on campus at the start of the summer. Prince-Alexander Moody closed out the night by knocking down back-to-back 3-pointers.
With IU competing in the FISU American Games next week, the exhibition gave coach Darian DeVries and his staff an opportunity to see the team in action and test out various lineups after spending about six weeks practicing together.

IU 98, CA 64: 0:00 4th Quarter: Indiana basketball fans ended the night by chanting “USA, USA, USA” while the Hoosiers had walk-ons close out the 34-point victory.

IU 78, CA 55; 6:24 4th Quarter: Indiana guard Darren Harris knocked down his third 3-pointer to help his team open the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run. The Hoosiers pushed their lead to 25 points without Sherrell scoring in the second half until their was 7:07 left in the fourth quarter. The starters all checked out after that with the big man’s putback giving IU a 25-point lead.

IU 69, 51 CA; 10:00 4th Quarter: Indiana guard Bryce Lindsay knocked down a 3-pointer on his team’s final possession of the third quarter. The Hoosiers had seven made 3-pointers through three quarters without putting up the same kind of volume of shots they did last year.

IU 59, CA 36; 4:24 3rd Quarter: After checking into the game early in the third, Prince-Alexander Moody got a fastbreak dunk for his first points. He got a nice ovation from the crowd when he checked out after diving onto the floor for a steal. Trent Sisley got off to a strong start in the second half as well by getting to the line multiple times and converting a 3-point play. He had seven points in the first six minutes of the quarter.

IU 46, CA 32; 10:00 3rd Quarter: Indiana basketball heads into halftime up 14 points. Aiden Sherrell led the way with 14 points on 5 of 7 shooting and Markus Burton had nine points. Freshman Trevor Manhertz led all reserves with eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

IU 38, CA 26; 2:40 2nd Quarter: Aiden Sherrell showed off his range by knocking down back-to-back 3-pointers to give IU its biggest lead of the night, 36-24. He was active on both ends of the floor and took advantage of his size advantage with a three blocks in the first half.

IU 29, CA 24; 6:51 2nd Quarter: Trent Sisley showed off his improved strength by muscling his way up for a layup to put IU up 27-21 with 7:51 to go in the second quarter. Sisley gave the Hoosiers eight different players with at least one made field goal. Markus Burton went to the bench with 6:51 to go in the half after picking up his second foul.

IU 23, CA 19; 10:00 2nd Quarter: Indiana’s true freshmen each had a chance to shine at the end of the first quarter. Prince-Alexander Moody had steal in the backcourt that set up a lob for Vaughn Karvala. The next time down the floor, Trevor Manhertz knocked down a 3-pointer. Manhertz ended the quarter with five points, tied for a team-high with Darren Harris and Aiden Sherrell.

IU 15, CA 12; 2:51 1st Quarter: Indiana trailed 8-4 to start, but found its footing with a 7-0 run. Darren Harris hit a 3-pointer and Bryce Lindsay set up a fastbreak layup from Markus Burton with a steal. Coach Darian DeVries brought in Trent Sisley along with true freshman Prince-Alexander Moody and Trevor Manhertz off the bench midway through the quarter.

Indiana basketball guard Jaeden Mustaf won’t play on Wednesday night with the staff holding him out for precautionary reasons. The Hoosiers will also be without freshman Clemens Sokolov, a freshman signee out of Germany who has yet to arrive stateside. The rest of the roster is expected to be available.

Indiana’s exhibition on Wednesday night won’t be televised or streamed, but the Hoosiers games in Peru for the FISU America Games from July 20 to August 1 — their schedule has yet to be announced — are expected to be available to stream. The competition brings 20-25 countries from North, Central and South American as well as the Caribbean together a multi-sport event.

Indiana basketball plans on wearing Team USA jerseys in the exhibition on Wednesday night. The Hoosiers offered a sneak peek at their new threads in a video posted to social media. They have white and navy blue uniform combinations with the IU symbol printed on the front of the shorts.
