MPS Summer Academy, rec sites close due to extreme heat

Milwaukee Public Schools and the county’s recreation department cancelled several activities Tuesday, July 14, as a brutal heat wave settles over the city.

The National Weather Service said the heat index – or the “feels like” temperature – would likely exceed 100 degrees Tuesday. High temperatures are expected to hover around 90 throughout the week.

MPS closes Summer Academy and indoor rec sites

MPS announced Tuesday morning that all the district’s Summer Academy sites, Extended Learning Opportunities, and indoor Milwaukee Recreation sites will be closed on Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 15.

Milwaukee Recreation canceled the following activities:

Splash pads, wading pools will remain open

In a Tuesday morning Facebook posted, Milwaukee Recreation said the free summer playground program, which includes splash pads, wading pools and free meals, will remain open despite the heat.
