Arrowhead girls track and field
For the first time since 2011, there was a three-peat state track and field team champion in Division 1. The Arrowhead Warhawks girls track and field team was the best unit in the state all season and June 6 the two-time defending state team champion became the first team in any division since 2013 to reach the 70-point mark at the WIAA state track and field meet to win its third straight title. Arrowhead won four individual events, along with the 400-meter relay to outscore the D1 field with those five total victories alone. Payton Eicher won the long and triple jump double, while Elise Schroeder shattered the state meet pole vault record at 13 feet, 6 inches and Avery Bott won the 400-meter title. The duo of Eicher and Schroeder also joined Josie Bularz and Giselle Huggett in capturing the 400-meter relay crown.
Brookfield Central girls soccer
With its dominant 5-0 victory over fellow Greater Metro Conference member Wauwatosa East in the WIAA Division 2 state title match June 20, Brookfield Central became the first school since Catholic Memorial in 2013 to repeat as D2 state champion. The Lancers entered the state tournament as the No. 1 overall seed in D2 and survived a 1-0 thriller June 18 to reach the state title match. Bella Perez was the semifinal hero at the 97:14 mark of extra time against No. 4 seed Holmen to send the Lancers into the title match, where they scored three first-half goals to cruise toward the program’s eighth overall title. Alexandra Rossi scored a brace in her final match with the Lancers, while sophomore Stella Wein tallied a goal and an assist for Central in the final.
Divine Savior Holy Angels girls soccer
There’s a new queen in Division 1 soccer after a four-year run of dominance from Muskego. For the sixth time in program history, DSHA girls soccer is state champion after a thrilling 3-1 victory over the four-time defending champion Warriors on June 20. After a dominant 3-0 victory over No. 4 seed Kimberly in the semifinals, the Dashers got goals from Reese Roethe, Mary Stith and Sarah McElherne in the final to win the program’s first title since 2021. It marked the second state title of the weekend for the Greater Metro Conference with Brookfield Central’s victory in the D2 title match.
Homestead boys track and field
After nearly capturing its first state title since 2010 during the 2025 state boys track and field meet, missing out by a single point, Homestead returned to La Crosse with redemption on its mind and earned its third state Division 1 team title in program history. The Highlanders outlasted Classic 8 Conference foes Arrowhead and Waukesha West to win the team title with 48 total points. After helping his teammates defend a 3,200-meter relay title during the first day of action, senior Jay Tally won the 800-meter run in record-breaking fashion (1:51.00) while placing third in the mile (4:05.90). His time in the 800 broke his own meet record from the 2025 meet.
Pewaukee baseball
The Pirates had been knocking on the door of the program’s first state title in program history in recent seasons and last month, Pewaukee finally kicked the door off its hinges. The Pirates captured their first state baseball title with a 5-4 victory in the WIAA Division 2 state title game against reigning D3 state champion Kenosha St. Joseph. After surviving a 2-1 nailbiter in the semifinals against No. 4 Somerset with Blayke Duvall throwing a complete game with eight strikeouts in the win, the Pirates got a go-ahead two-run base hit from Jack Tabbert in the bottom half of the fifth inning to break a 2-2 deadlock against the Lancers.
Sussex Hamilton softball
For the first time in program history, the Sussex Hamilton Chargers are WIAA Division 1 state softball champions. The Chargers made their fifth appearance at state in the last six postseasons and finally captured that elusive state crown with an 8-3 victory over No. 2 seed Muskego in the Division 1 title game. Gatorade state player of the year Bitsy Palicka threw every inning for the Chargers in their three-game path to the title, including all nine innings of a 3-2 semifinal against Sun Prairie East where fellow sophomore Ava Serembizcky drilled a walk-off single off the wall to send the Chargers to the title game. Junior catcher Aubrie Peterson drilled three hits and drove in six of Hamilton’s eight runs in the title game victory.
Whitefish Bay boys tennis
For the first time since 2002, the Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes became WIAA state boys tennis team champions. The top-seeded Blue Dukes went 17-4 across three dual matches at the state tournament to win their first overall state team title in 24 years. The title ended a near two-decade run of state champions in D1 from the Greater Metro Conference. The Blue Dukes’ three doubles pairings all captured victories in the final matchup over No. 2 Middleton, including Tyler Emory and Asher Schutz at No. 1 doubles. No. 1 singles player Grant Schaefer survived a 15-13 third-set classic over individual state runner-up Alexander Bo at No. 1 singles to help the Blue Dukes put a cap on a stellar 27-1 campaign with a state title. The title marked the sixth team state title of the school year for Whitefish Bay after boys and girls swim titles, boys and girls basketball titles and a boys soccer title in D2.
