San Angelo Fourth of July guide for celebrations, city closures

The city of San Angelo is adjusting schedules amidst upcoming Fourth of July events.

City offices will be closed Friday in observance of Independence Day, the city said in a media release. Trash collection will continue without interruption, but the landfill will be closed Saturday.

Fireworks

The Star-Spangled Banner Concert & Fireworks will take be Friday at the River Stage, 16 E. Ave. A. Live local entertainment will continue throughout the day. The fireworks show will begin later in the evening and is hosted by Downtown San Angelo Inc. and San Angelo Live!

Lake Nasworthy fireworks will be around 9 p.m. Saturday. The fireworks are launched from across Goodfellow Recreation Camp and can be viewed from all around the lake and nearby areas. Spectators can tune in to a curated soundtrack to the fireworks show on 94.7 KIXY FM.

The city requests residents be aware of heavy traffic in the area during this time. The privately funded event is organized by the Lake Nasworthy Homeowners Association.

Also, shooting or possessing fireworks inside or within 5,000 feet of the city limits of San Angelo is a class C misdemeanor punishable by a maximum fine of $2,000. To report illegal fireworks, call the nonemergency dispatch number at 325-657-4315.

Fort Concho

Fort Concho will be open as usual 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday for self-guided tours.

Hourly artillery salutes will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday on the parade ground near Barracks 1. It is free and open to all.

The western art show in the Quartermaster building will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Municipal pool

The municipal pool will be open on the July Fourth weekend with public swimming noon-6 p.m. Admission is $6 for ages 3-64, free for children 2 and younger, and $4 for ages 65 and older. 

On Friday, the pool will be open noon-6 p.m. and then will reopen at 6:30 p.m. for the sold‑out splash party and fireworks viewing. The pool will close after the fireworks.

Credit and debit cards are the only form of payment accepted. For more information, call the Parks and Recreation Office at 325-657-4279.
