The 1990s were not a particularly fun decade for USC football. The Trojans did not win 10 games a single time during the decade, made just one Rose Bowl, and experienced lengthy losing streaks to hated rivals Notre Dame and UCLA.
However, USC did still have some star players during the decade. In a recent story, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic ranked the top 25 college football players of the 1990s. USC offensive lineman Tony Boselli made the list, coming in at No. 19.
“The ’90s weren’t a great decade by USC standards, but Boselli was one of the elite offensive linemen of his era,” Feldman wrote. “He had an ideal blend of size, intelligence and physicality, helping him become a three-time first-team All-Pac-10 honoree and a two-time All-American.”
In his four-year USC career, Boselli earned first-team All-American honors twice and first-team All-Pac-10 three times. As a senior in 1994, he won the Morris Trophy as the top offensive lineman in the Pac-10 Conference.
The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Boselli with the second overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft. He was the first draft pick in the expansion franchise’s history. Boselli would go on to put together a dominant NFL career, and is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
