Section 1 is perennially atop New York state in tennis. This spring was no different with local products claiming state titles in both the singles and team brackets.
The year was headlined by Scarsdale, which claimed a state title as a team and saw Jack Reis win the singles championship. But as is typically the case, Section 1’s reign on the state extended beyond the Raiders. Byram Hills won a state title in the Division 2 team tournament, while Clarkstown South’s top doubles pairing finished runners-up for a state crown. Three doubles teams ended the state tournament in the top five statewide.
It’s time to recognize the stardom that hit the courts this spring. Here are the 2026 Journal News/lohud boys tennis all-stars.
Jack Reis
2026 lohud Boys Tennis Player of the Year
School: Scarsdale
Year: Senior
All Reis did in his senior year was win.
The Amherst College-commit went a perfect 20-0 on the year. He won the Section 1 tournament in a nearly four-hour marathon. He then had no problem winning regionals and eventually ended up as the New York State singles champion for the Raiders.
“It really means a lot to me, winning the state individual tournament,” Reis said. “It’s everything that most high schoolers strive for, and to really achieve it and be a part of it really means a lot.
But that was only one of his state championships from 2026. As the first singles player for Scarsdale, Reis led a unit that also won the state tournament in the team bracket. He did all of this after not playing varsity tennis during his junior year, due to academic and non-scholastic athletic commitments.
Without a junior year, Reis went all in for this season. The result was a lot of winning.
“It’s cool to end off my high school season like this because I’m a senior and I wouldn’t have any more chances,” he added.
