The City of Corning will commemorate America’s 250th Anniversary Friday, July 4, at an evening community celebration in the Corning Gaffer District with live music, local vendors, and fireworks.
Catherine Price, Executive Director of Corning’s Gaffer District, said residents and visitors are invited to join the free event festivities on Independence Day.
“America’s 250th Anniversary is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to celebrate our nation’s history and our community,” Price said. “We are grateful to partner with the Corning Lions Club to present an expanded fireworks display and an evening of family-friendly activities that we hope will create lasting memories.”
The celebration will begin at 4 p.m. in Riverfront Centennial Park.
From 4-10 p.m., the park will host a variety of food vendors, craft vendors, and community activities, creating a festive atmosphere for families and visitors to enjoy throughout the evening.
To commemorate America’s 250th Anniversary, the Gaffer District has partnered with the Corning Lions Club to significantly expand this year’s fireworks display, creating an enhanced Independence Day celebration for the community.
Price said the Corning Area Community Concert Band will be performing from 7-9 p.m. in Centerway Square.
The evening will conclude with a fireworks display over the Chemung River at 9:30 p.m. sponsored by the Corning Lions Club and the Gaffer District.
“The expanded display recognizes the nation’s semi-quincentennial and promises to be one of the region’s premier Independence Day celebrations,” Price said.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and explore downtown businesses who will be staying open late, enjoy local food and shopping opportunities, and spend the evening celebrating with friends, family, and neighbors.
Price said Market Street will remain open to traffic during the event; however, the roadway surrounding the Clock Tower will be closed to accommodate event activities and pedestrian safety.
