Motorcyclist, 36, from West Palm, dies after crash with car

A 36-year-old West Palm Beach man died after his motorcycle was struck by a car on Australian Avenue in Riviera Beach on Friday, June 19.

According to Riviera Beach police, officers were sent to the 100 block of Australian Avenue around 2:30 p.m. after a report of a bad crash involving a car and motorcycle.

First arriving officers found the motorcyclist lying on the sidewalk, unconscious and not breathing. Police reported that a bystander, who was a nurse, started CPR on the victim along with officers. Despite the lifesaving attempts, Riviera Beach Fire Rescue paramedics pronounced the man dead on the scene, police said.

Traffic Homicide Unit officers on the scene preliminarily determined that a 2017 Ford Taurus, driven by a 23-year-old Port St. Lucie man, was southbound on Australian Avenue when it turned left at West 1st Street into the path of the northbound motorcycle, striking it.

The motorcycle, a 2004 Suzuki GSXR600, was driven by a 36-year-old man, whose name is being withheld pending family notification.

Police did not provide a condition of the Ford Taurus driver.

The investigation remains open and charges are pending.

Anyone with information about the crash should contact Officer Jeffrey Barker at 561-845-4123 or JBarker@RBPublicSafety.org.
