A second brush fire in as many days broke out in Martin County June 20 as lightning passed through the area.
The fire started just before 5 p.m. near Southeast Old Cypress Drive and Southeast Flora Avenue in Hobe Sound, according to Martin County Fire Rescue. Flames burned 10 acres, but 100% contained, Fire Rescue officials said June 21.
Heavy rain helped suppress the flames, Fire Rescue spokesperson Jilian Kay said.
The fire posed no threat to the public, according to Fire Rescue. No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened, officials said.
A fire June 19 burned 13.4 acres near Southwest Martin Highway and Southwest 78th Avenue — between Florida’s Turnpike and Interstate 95 — in unincorporated Martin County, according to the Florida Forest Service.
Lightning might have caused that fire, which was 100% contained June 19, Martin County Fire Rescue officials said.
The cause of the June 20 fire is under investigation, Kay said.
