The recruiting world is on fire, with major commitment coming nearly every day. The Longhorns have found themselves in the center of it all, picking up multiple massive commitments recently. It doesn’t seem like the momentum is stopping any time soon, with a number of other targets set to commit this week.
Let’s jump into the recent developments and what could be on the horizon for Texas:
John Meredith III – CB Commit
This is the big one. John Meredith III is the No. 2 player in the country and there is a good reason for that. He brings elite length at 6’2” with 33-inch arms, making him one of the best coverage corners in recent memory. He represents the highest defensive commitment of the Steve Sarkisian era and the third highest Texas commit in the modern era.
This is a player you can build a defense around and Will Muschamp seems to have led the way. I don’t expect any change between now and signing day but I imagine that won’t stop Texas A&M from trying to flip him. Texas needs to hold onto him, because he can start and change games from Day One.
Brian Swanson – OT Commit
The other major commitment you could argue is even more important. The recruiting class is very important for Kyle Flood to build the future of the offensive line. It’s possible Texas loses four of five starters along the offensive line to the NFL Draft. They need impact freshman and Swanson can be that. The four star comes in at 6’6”, 320lbs and moves incredibly well. He also competes in track and field, throwing shot put and discus.
The athleticism is clear and it gives him the versatility to possibly play inside or outside for Texas. He’s someone that, if healthy, is unlikely to be a “bust” because of the baseline skills and athleticism he brings to the table. With elite coaching, which he will get, he can be a first round NFL Draft pick in three seasons. This is someone Texas fans could very well see getting substantial snaps in 2027.
Kyron Brown – WR Target
Moving forward to the players that could keep the Texas hot streak going, three-star WR Kyron Brown commits on Tuesday, June 23rd. The Amarillo, Texas product comes in at 6’0”, 185lbs and brings remarkable speed to the table. Along with football, he competes in track and field, running the 110 and 300-meter hurdles. The road to the field would be longer but the upside is real. Kansas State and Baylor are the Longhorns main competitors but it seems Texas is leading the pack here. This could be Texas’ sixth commitment in the month of June.
Junior Tu’upo – S Target
This is the recruitment Texas has flipped on its head. Alabama was seen as the leader in this recruitment for quite some time but Texas turned the tide during his visit to Austin. Since then, the Longhorns have earned multiple predictions to earn his commitment on Friday, June 26th. The four-star safety out of Alabama has remarkable playmaking ability, racking up 7 PBUs and 3 INTs in his junior season. This would be another elite addition to the secondary along with Meredith and the first true safety commit of the Texas class.
Montre Jackson – CB Target
Continuing with the secondary theme, four-star CB Montre Jackson is another commitment to watch this week. Jackson will commit just a few hours before Tu’upo will announce and it seems Texas is in the driver’s seat here as well. SMU is the largest competition here and is still very much a factor, but as the Friday commitment nears, the confidence around the Longhorns seems to grow. If he does commit to the Mustangs, it could be a sign of another commitment coming.
Neimann Lawrence – 2028 QB Target
The other commitment to watch is one an elite QB target from a familiar high school. Lawrence is the No. 5 QB in the 2028 class and is set to take over for current Longhorn, Dia Bell, at American Heritage High School this season. The 6’1”, 200lbs signal caller also plays baseball and it shows on the football field, being able to release the ball from weird angles. He’s an elite distributor of the football, with elite accuracy and command of the offense. Notre Dame, Miami, Michigan and Texas A&M are the other finalists for the star but it seems Texas will pick up the commitment here. If they do, he could be on track to take over for Dia Bell for the second time in a few years.
Major Weekend of Visitors
Easton Royal – WR Commit
Royal has made his way to Austin after LSU and Florida did their best to get the flip. The recruitment continues to be one to watch but the confidence around the Longhorns doesn’t seem to have waned. The hope is Texas can finish this recruitment this weekend and lockdown the five-star.
Karnell James – CB Commit
LSU has seemingly turned on the full court press for James as of late. The Louisiana native is in Austin currently and Texas will try to fend off the Tigers for the four-star. If there is a negative recruiting headline coming for Texas, I expect it to be around James.
Monshun Sales – WR Target
This is the dream situation for this recruiting class. Easton Royal and Monshun Sales in the same offense would be remarkably lethal and I’m sure that’s Texas’ top pitch this weekend. Indiana and Alabama still seem to be the leaders here, but that’s been the case with many players before they come to Austin lately.
Landen Williams-Callis – RB
One of the more surprising turns has been Texas gaining traction in this recruitment. With Noah Roberts already in the fold, it seems Sarkisian is looking for an elite RB duo in this class. The five-star RB out of Richmond, Texas is a track star as well, running a 10.65 100-meter dash. Texas will have to beat out Texas A&M, Missouri, Oregon and more but this is a recruitment to watch moving forward.
Dhillon McGee – CB
This is the commitment that could come if Montre Jackson picks SMU. Both Jackson and McGee have Texas and SMU as their finalists and most seem to think they’ll split between the two. Right now, I’d expect McGee to end up a Mustang and Jackson a Longhorn, but that could change this weekend. A commitment is coming on June 25th so it could be a hint towards Jackson’s decision.
