Officers responded around 10:57 p.m. to the 3000 block of Lake Avenue for a report of a vehicle that had struck a tree.

When officers arrived, they found a pickup truck with significant front-end damage. The driver, who was the vehicle’s sole occupant, was transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was found to have life-threatening upper-body injuries.

Investigation underway

A preliminary investigation found the pickup truck was traveling south on Lake Avenue when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a light pole before crashing into a tree.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
