MPS needs vs. resources disparity should be top of fix list | Letter

State Rep. Scott Allen makes a couple important points in his recent commentary (“MPS is doomed to failure without external intervention” May 27).

First, that Milwaukee Public Schools “serves the highest percentage of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, students with disabilities, and English learners.” And second, that “MPS’s per-pupil revenue is the 82nd highest out of 421 school districts in Wisconsin.”

That’s a tough situation. The district ranked number one in terms of need is 82nd in terms of resources.

Perhaps addressing that disparity should be at the top of any list of fixes for MPS.
