PETERSBURG, IL — Brie Allison was waiting out the rain in Petersburg shortly after 4 p.m. June 17 when she got a call from one of the workers at Hand of Fate Brewing Company on the town’s square.
Wind blew down a facade panel, Allison, who owns Hand of Fate with her husband, Mike, learned.
“It got pushed (by the wind) and came straight down,” Brie Allison told The State Journal-Register.
Allison was checking equipment inside the business. Another of the three panels was bowing sideways, she said.
The event prompted Allison to close the restaurant for the evening.
Power has flickered on and off at the restaurant a couple of times, she said.
Allison said there were no injuries.
The Menard County community was socked by heavy rain and gumball-size hail.
Around 7:30 p.m., Petersburg Fire Department posted on Facebook that there were “numerous reports” of damage to homes, businesses and vehicles, along with trees and power lines down throughout Petersburg and the surrounding communities.
Ameren Illinois reported nearly 45,000 customers statewide without power as of 8 p.m. There were multiple outages in Petersburg, according to an outage map.
