Former FSU commit Dayon Cooper completed his flip to the in-state Tennessee Volunteers on Monday, announcing the news on social media.
“Extremely blessed to announce my commitment to The University of Tennessee,” he wrote. “My recruitment is now shut down as I prepare for my senior season at THE PITT!”
Cooper decommitted from the Seminoles on Sunday shortly after his official visit to Tennessee. FSU was recruiting the three-star athlete as a cornerback, with the Volunteers giving him the option to play wide receiver, something he has expressed interest in, and that the Seminoles were hesitant to do. He is from South Pittsburgh, Tennessee.
He is ranked as the No. 516 overall player and No. 32 athlete in the 247Sports composite. He is also the No. 22 player from Tennessee.
Cooper played all over the field for South Pittsburgh High School as a junior and was extremely productive on offense. He was named the Tennessee Division 1 A Mr. Football after catching 29 passes for 421 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also rushing for 421 yards and 5 more touchdowns.
He is the sixth decommitment that FSU has suffered in the 2027 recruiting cycle. They now have nine players committed, and three-star safety Jemari Foreman is the only defensive back. They have emerged as the favorite for four-star safety Ta’Shawn Poole, with Tennessee being the other finalist for the top 100 prospect.
