A 16-year-old driver, who was found shot and killed after his vehicle crashed into a tree over the weekend in Stockton, has been identified by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office Monday as Valentino Mark Gilmore.

Stockton police officers responded at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 13 to Hickock Court for a report of a person shot.

At the scene, officers found a vehicle that has crashed into a tree inside the court. Inside the car was Gilmore, who police said had been shot.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said more officers responded to another location inside the court and found a 55-year-old man who was also suffering from a graze wound.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to police.

Police said the 16-year-old and 55-year-old man were involved in the same incident, but did not release more information about their connection.

Gilmore’s death marked the city’s 11th homicide this year.

As of Monday, two locations in Stockton displayed a memorial in honor of Gilmore.

The first location was at Hickock Court where the teen had died. In the court, next to a white home and a large tree, several tall candles were placed on the sidewalk.

Small white candles also placed on the cement sidewalk spelled out the name “Tino.”

In addition to candles, loved ones left Gatorades, Powerade’s, Taki chips, blue and white flowers, water and photos at the scene. Some candles held messages that said “we love you” and “miss you” on them.

Family members and loved ones of the teen also left more candles at Panella Park, located at 5758 Lorraine Ave., which is approximately a 13-minute drive apart.

In red spray pain the name “Tino” with a heart was also painted on the sidewalk next to the parks bathroom area.

As of Monday, suspect information or a motive for the shooting has not been released.
