Fried and fluffy, the pastries best accompanied by a fresh cup of joe when consumed in the morning, or a tall glass of milk when late night munchies strike deserve to be celebrated for a hole day.
Every first Friday of June is dedicated to celebrating the handheld delicacies for National Donut Day, which falls on June 5 this year. The capital city gets to celebrate the holiday everyday at one of Florida’s top-rated donut shops, Donut Kingdom.
DoorDash put out a list of 100 top-rated local donut shops across the United States, with two shops from Florida appearing on the list.
“Donut shops are true neighborhood institutions that people return to week after week,” Ruth Isenstadt, head of U.S. restaurants at DoorDash, said in a news release. “National Donut Day is a chance to celebrate the local shops that turn ordinary mornings into something special.”
The list was compiled from customer reviews between April 2025 and 2026 and includes stores in 25 states. Shops had to have at least 1,000 reviews to be eligible.
Not only does Donut Kingdom reign in Tallahassee, but in the nation with its light and puffy doughnuts, beautifully decorated with a just-right balance of sugar and texture.
“Everybody’s support throughout our moves in Tallahassee in general. It means a lot to my family. That’s the reason why we’re still here — everybody’s support. We’re beyond grateful,” Hiba Khalil with Donut Kingdom said in a previous interview with the Tallahassee Democrat.
The small, family-owned business started in 2009 and quickly became a Tallahassee go-to destination for breakfast sweets with three locations. They have a range of yeast doughnuts (Maple Frosted), cake doughnuts (Red Velvet Cake), filled doughnuts (Boston Kreme), even vegan doughnuts (Vegan Oreo). Don’t miss out on jumbo apple fritters or cinnamon rolls. Other favorite flavors include French toast, chocolate frosted, strawberry sprinkles, double glazed and raspberry filled.
To celebrate the holiday they offered a doughnut to the first 100 guests to visit their stores. Donut Kingdom currently operates two locations on 1705 W Tennessee St. and 3551 S Blairstone Road.
“We hope to continue to serve Tallahassee and put smiles on people’s faces and deliver the best donuts in Tallahassee,” she said.
