Voters decide Shasta supervisor District 1 race on election day

Voters will decide the hotly contested race for Shasta County District 1 supervisor, which will see a rematch between Supervisor Kevin Crye and Redding Councilwoman Erin Resner, and test the fervor for political newcomer Richard Gallardo.

To win, candidates will need to receive over 50% of votes cast. If no candidate wins, the top two vote-getters will move on to the general election on Nov. 3.

Crye and Resner have battled for the county seat once before, with Crye defeating Resner by just 90 votes in a 2022 runoff election. Notably, in a primary election earlier that year, Resner outperformed Crye by 480 votes, but did not receive an adequate proportion of votes to win that election, falling just short of the over-50% requirement.

An effort to recall Crye from the District 1 seat was made in 2023, with a petition to remove the supervisor receiving over 4,900 valid signatures. However, in the 2024 presidential primary election, the effort did not meet the over-50% requirement, with those opposed outnumbering those in favor by just 50 votes.
