A good Samaritan was among three killed along Interstate 75 in Collier County early May 31, state police say.
The crash happened shortly before 4 a.m. May 31 when a semi-trailer traveling south on I-75 near the Pine Ridge Road exit drifted off the road. The truck then veered back onto southbound lanes and overturned, blocking the center and outside lanes, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.
The truck driver, a 31-year-old Naples man, suffered minor injuries and exited the semi. A 25-year-old Naples man driving a BMW was a good Samaritan who stopped at the crash scene and exited his car to help the truck driver, FHP said.
At the same time, a 20-year-old Naples man driving a 2023 Tesla was driving south on I-75, approaching the truck and BMW driver who standing outside.
The front of the Tesla struck the underside of the overturned truck and the BMW driver. Two Tesla passengers ― two Naples men, aged 18 and 19 ― were pronounced dead at the scene, FHP said.
The BMW driver suffered critical injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
The Tesla driver and two passengers ― Naples men aged 19 and 20 ― suffered serious injuries and went to a hospital.
The truck driver suffered minor injuries and also was taken to a hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
