The Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals were rained out for the second time in three days on May 24.
The Reds-Cardinals series finale scheduled for Sunday, May 24 was postponed, Reds officials announced at about 2:15 p.m.
The game will be made up as part of day-night doubleheader Aug. 17 at 1:40 p.m. Tickets for the May 24 game can be used at that time or exchanged. The Reds and Cardinals will also play their previously scheduled 6:40 p.m. game on Aug. 17.
The Reds and Cardinals had as many rainouts as games during the scheduled games for May 22-24, getting two apiece.
The teams split their May 23 doubleheader, with the Cardinals taking Game 1 by an 8-1 score. Cincinnati won the nightcap 7-6 in 11 innings.
The Reds (27-25) move on to Queens, New York, and Citi Field and a three-game series with the struggling New York Mets.
The Mets have been one of the early disappointments of the 2026 season as they entered play May 24 with a 22-30 record, which had them in last place in the National League East. At 13.5 games back of the division-leading Atlanta Braves, New York had the largest deficit to first place in all of MLB.
The Reds are scheduled to send out a formidable trio of starting pitchers for the Mets series in Nick Lodolo, Chase Burns and Andrew Abbott.
Lodolo (0-1, 7.20 ERA), who last pitched May 18 against the Philadelphia Phillies, will pitch in the Monday, May 25 game against Nolan McLean (2-3, 3.57 ERA). The first pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m., and the game will mark a week between starts for Lodolo.
The Mets hadn’t announced their starters for the Tuesday, May 26 (7:10 p.m.) and Wednesday, May 27 (7:10 p.m.) games.
Burns (6-1, 1.83 ERA) is suddenly the subject of MLB All-Star Game and Cy Young Award buzz. It’s pretty early for the latter, but his performances are driving the conversation.
Abbott (4-2, 3.97 ERA) is 4-0 with a 2.95 ERA in his last seven starts. He’s won each of his last three starts with just three combined runs allowed over 16 1/3 innings.
Cincinnati’s scheduled May 23 starter, Brady Singer, won’t pitch in New York.
