A Milwaukee man accused of calling a victim over 1,500 times from jail and threatening a police officer’s life was charged May 20 with felony murder in relation to an armed robbery attempt in January.
Milwaukee prosecutors say Amier H. Jones, Jr., and another man attempted to rob his former partner’s boyfriend for drugs, which ended with Jones’ associate being shot and killed by the target.
Overall, Jones has five open criminal cases in Milwaukee County, online court records show. Among his charges are stalking his former partner and threating to kill her and her family. Prosecutors say, while jailed for that case, he broke a court-ordered no-contact with the victim more than 1,500 times and attempted to contact the woman, urging her to recant.
Jones was charged in April with victim intimidation in a domestic abuse crime for that alleged behavior.
Jones also threatened the detective involved in investigating those messages, according to court records. He was charged May 21 with threatening to cause bodily harm to a person involved in the court or legal system for that alleged behavior.
“If this the detective from preliminary reading this & on the case … u already on my hit listen[sic],” a court record cited.
Those messages came under scrutiny earlier in May, after Circuit Judge Ana Berrios-Schroeder denied a prosecutor’s request to restrict his communication from jail. However, a Milwaukee County Jail spokesperson said staff restricted Jones’ communication to be allowed only with his attorney, after officials learned of the alleged behavior.
Jones was scheduled for an initial appearance in both the recent cases – for felony murder and for the threats against the officer – on May 21. Felony murder is a lesser charge than reckless homicide or intentional homicide.
No attorney is listed for him in online court records and the public defender representing him in his other cases did not respond to a request for comment.
Attempted robbery ends in fatal shooting
Authorities allege Jones and Frank Mosley III attempted to set up a pill purchase with Jones’ ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend. During the scheduled Jan. 13 meetup, Mosley was shot and killed and Jones fled from the scene, according to the criminal complaint.
According to the complaint:
Jones and Mosley planned to rob the man for Xanax or Percocet, with Jones organizing the purchase on the city’s north side. Jones had also attempted to set up another robbery and successfully robbed another man of his glasses and necklace.
When the two men arrived for the drug deal, Mosley spoke to the dealer and Jones later approached from the passenger side window. The target of the robbery told police they shot Mosley after Mosley attempted to grab the driver’s door and open it.
Following the shooting, the robbery target received text messages threatening the target’s family and telling them to leave the city. Those texts came from a phone associated with Jones.
In an interview with police, Jones told officers he was not involved with the attempted robbery that led to Mosley’s death or organizing it. However, prosecutors say security footage shows a similarly built man as him involved with the robbery and the phone use to set it up was his.
