PFF ranks Matthew Stafford vs. Josh Allen as a top QB duel in 2026

There are a lot of intriguing and exciting matchups on the Los Angeles Rams’ schedule this season, including a Christmas Day showdown with the Seattle Seahawks. But there will be a lot of eyes on Rams-Bills in Week 5, a Monday night game between the last two MVP winners.

The last time Matthew Stafford and Josh Allen squared off, they played an epic 44-42 shootout that the Rams won in thrilling fashion, staving off a miraculous comeback attempted by Allen and the Bills.

Stafford threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns, while Allen had 342 and three scores through the air, with another 82 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Pro Football Focus recently ranked the top five quarterback duels of the 2026 season, and Stafford-Allen was on the list.

Here’s part of what Daire Carragher wrote about the matchup for PFF:

The Bills will play the eighth-hardest schedule in the league this season, and Josh Allen could find himself in his fair share of shootouts. These stars have crossed paths three times in their careers, with Allen’s Bills currently 2-1 in those matchups.

While Allen would be considered more dangerous when extending plays than Stafford, he also takes more negative plays. Stafford was sacked 29 times on 240 pressured dropbacks last season. Meanwhile, Allen was sacked 44 times on 237 dropbacks under pressure.

But it’s also fair to wonder if luck will swing further in Allen’s favor this season. Stafford threw only interceptions on 26 turnover-worthy plays last year, while Allen threw 12 interceptions on 16 turnover-worthy plays.

Stafford and Allen are both gunslingers who aren’t afraid to throw it 50 times if needed. Though Allen is much more mobile and a legitimate dual-threat quarterback, they both have cannons for arms, which allows them to target all levels of the field.

Each defense will be tested in that game, particularly with the weapons the opposing offenses possess. The Bills have James Cook, D.J. Moore and Khalil Shakir, while the Rams are stacked with Puka Nacua, Davante Adams and Kyren Williams.

As long as both quarterbacks are healthy, this should be another epic battle between two MVP quarterbacks.
