Meet the 2 Shasta Family YMCA Athletes of the Week for May 10-16

Two Shasta County athletes are being recognized for their outstanding achievements on the diamond.

This week, a Redding Christian and West Valley high school athlete are being highlighted. It’s time to meet the two Shasta Family YMCA Athletes of the Week for their accomplishments over the week of May 10-16.

Brodie Ogden, Redding Christian

Sport: Baseball

School: Redding Christian

Class: Senior

Team Contributions: Brodie Ogden has been a two-way star for the Redding Christian baseball team throughout the 2026 season. At the plate, Ogden is slashing .444/.539/.698 with 28 hits, 22 RBIs and 10 extra base hits. As a pitcher, Ogden owns a 1.75 ERA and with 79 strikeouts to only 26 walks.

In the Lions first round playoff game against Hayfork, Ogden showed off his abilities both on the mound and at the plate. The senior went 3-for-3 with one run, five RBIs and a double. He also tossed four hitless innings, giving up no walks and striking out nine of the 12 batters he faced. Ogden followed that up with another three-hit outing to help send Redding Christian to the NSCIF Division VI championship game.

Jenni Carrol, West Valley

Sport: Softball

School: West Valley

Class: Senior

Team Contributions: West Valley softball has a team full of stars, but perhaps none have been more consistent than senior Jenni Carroll. Carroll is slashing .397/.449/.564 with 31 hits and 21 RBIs this season. Carroll currently owns a nine-game hitting streak dating back to April 25. Over that span, the senior has recorded 16 hits, nine RBIs, and seven extra base hits. In the Eagles first-round playoff game against Live Oak, Carroll went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run. Carroll will look to extend her hitting streak to 10 games when the Eagles face off against No. 2 Lassen at noon on Thursday, May 21.
