These 17 local teams will compete in the CIF-SS softball playoffs

Seventeen local teams have been selected to the CIF-Southern Section softball playoffs.

The only two local top seeds were in Division 4, where Tri-Valley League St. Bonaventure, the defending Division 5 champion, is the No. 1 seed and Channel League co-champion Rio Mesa is the No. 3 seed.

Three local teams earned at-large berths — Agoura in Division 1, Camarillo in Division 2 and Newbury Park in Division 4 — which means nine of the 11 teams from the powerhouse Marmonte and Coastal Canyon leagues will compete in the postseason.

First-round games for the eight sectional divisions will be played on Thursday, May 14 for Divisions 2, 4, 6 and 8 and Friday, May 15 for Divisions 1, 3, 5 and 7.

Three Marmonte League teams, including champion Oaks Christian, were seeded in Division 1.

Oaks Christian (25-3) will host Chaminade (17-5-1), Westlake (22-6-1) will visit Paraclete (24-2) and Agoura will visit Etiwanda (22-3) in Friday’s first round.

Four local teams, including Coastal Canyon League co-champions Simi Valley and Moorpark, were seeded in Division 2.

Simi Valley (18-7-2) will host Alta Loma (14-9), Moorpark (11-8) will visit Long Beach Poly (15-4), Thousand Oaks (19-9) will host Downey-Warren (17-10) and Camarillo (14-9) will host South Hills (13-12) in Thursday’s first round.

Oak Park (16-10) will visit Cerritos-Valley Christian (12-8) in Friday’s Division 3 first round.

Four local teams were placed in Division 4.

Top-seeded St. Bonaventure (17-6-1) will host Valencia (11-10), third-seeded Rio Mesa (14-13-1) will host Santa Ana-Segerstrom (9-14), Oxnard (12-10-1) will host Prep League champion Pasadena Poly (17-3) and Newbury Park (15-12) will visit Mid-Cities League champion Paramount (17-5-1) in Thursday’s first round.

Santa Clara (13-7) will visit top-seed Jurupa Hills (16-10) and Grace (12-10) will host Golden West League champion Buena Park (13-8) in the Division 5 first round Friday.

Citrus Coast League co-champion Santa Paula (13-9) will visit El Monte (14-8) in the Division 6 first round Thursday.

Citrus Coast League co-champion Fillmore (11-11) will visit Bloomington (12-7) in the Division 7 first round Friday.

Channel Islands (5-8) will visit San Bernardino (12-13-1) in the Division 8 first round Thursday.

The 17 local teams were among 256 playoff teams across eight divisions in the section.

Ventura (15-12), rated No. 144 in the Southern Section ratings, was the highest-rated local team to miss the field.

CIF-SS softball finals are scheduled for May 28-30 at Deanna Manning Stadium in Irvine.
