Here is a list of the top performers in high school sports from the Battle Creek Enquirer-area for the week of May 4-9.
Our weekly top performers list and athlete of the week nominees are compiled courtesy of information provided to the Battle Creek Enquirer by coaches, athletic directors or team statisticians through emails or mentioning @bcesports in game results and highlights posted to Facebook.

Baseball
Harper Creek held off Pennfield in the championship game with a 3-2 victory to win the 2026 All-City Baseball Tournament. See story here.
Softball
Harper Creek defeated Lakeview 9-8 to take the 2026 All-City Softball Tournament title, winning the championship game. See story here.
Soccer
Lakeview won the All-City Girls Soccer Tournament for the sixth straight season as the Spartans defeated Harper Creek 5-2 in the championship game. See story here.
Track
Harper Creek rolling
No. 2-ranked Harper Creek won the Berrien Spring Shamrock Invitational for the second year in a row in boys track with 147.5 team points. Host Berrien Springs was second at 101. DJ Wood had a record-breaking week for the Harper Creek boys track team. In a dual against Marshall, Wood broke his own school record in both the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Wood also helped Harper Creek win the Berrien Spring Shamrock Invitational as he broke his 300 hurdles record once again at 38.44 and also won the 110 hurdles.
The Harper Creek girls finished third at Berrien Springs. Marissa Demorest won the 3,200 for the Beavers in 12:57.8.
SMAC Meet
Lakeview, Battle Creek Central competed in the Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference Meet. Lakeview finished fifth in the boys meet with BCC in ninth. Lakeview broke the school record in the 3,200 relay as the Spartans took second in a time of 7:55.87 with the team of Carter Hughes, Karson Lewis, Elijah Demlow, Devyn Brown. Brown also won the 400 (50.01). Marcus King won the 110 hurdles (15.05).
Battle Creek Central’s Mehki Burton won the 200 (22.38)
In the girls meet, Lakeview took fourth with BCC ninth. Lakeview’s Raegan Magnus won the high jump (5-0). The Spartans’ Arenn Starks won the 300 hurdles (46.07).
Alma Invitational
Marshall boys finished second at the Alma Invitational. Abraham McHugh won the 3,200 (10:00.6), Zach Hudson won the 300 hurdles (40.1), The Redhawks also won the 400 relay (43.2) with the team of Landon Patton, Matthew Waito, Zach Hudson, Akin Olapade. Marshall won the 800 relay (1:30.1) with Patton, Waito, Hudson, Olapade, breaking the meet record. Olapade also won the discus (153-11). For the Marshall girls, Emily Dietrich won the 300 hurdles (47.3), setting the school record.
Charlotte Invitational
Pennfield competed in the Charlotte Invitational. Dre’Shaun Bailey won the 100 (11.42) in the boys meet as Ivander McKerron won the 200 (23.39).
Tennis
The Michigan High School Athletic Association girls tennis regionals are scheduled for this week, May 13-6. Lakeview, Battle Creek Central, Gull Lake are at a Division 2 regional at Portage Northern on Wednesday, May 13. Harper Creek, Pennfield, Marshall are at a Division 3 regional at Sturgis on Wednesday, May 13.
