While some teams turned over their front offices earlier this offseason, others waited until after the 2026 NFL draft to do so, including the Minnesota Vikings, who fired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah back in January.
The Vikings are beginning their search for Adofo-Mensah’s replacement, and they’ve reportedly asked the San Francisco 49ers for permission to interview assistant general manager RJ Gillen for the job.
Gillen has been with the 49ers for 11 seasons and served in his current role for just one after spending two seasons as San Francisco’s director of player personnel and three as their director of pro personnel.
This isn’t Gillen’s first interview request this offseason, as the Miami Dolphins also interviewed him for their open job, which was eventually filled by Jon-Eric Sullivan.
Interestingly enough, Gillen could get some immediate insight into the role from Adofo-Mensah, who was with the 49ers from 2013-2019 and returned to the team this offseason as a personnel executive after his departure from Minnesota.
