Howard to fill municipal judge, Village Board District 4 vacancies

Howard is asking residents to apply for open roles on the Village Board and municipal judge.

On April 30, the village encouraged applications to be submitted for a vacancy in District 4 on the Village Board. The seat opened up after John Muraski was elected village president April 7. Muraski was the only candidate who ran for the District 4 role.

Village Board members have to live in the district they apply for. District 4 represents much of the center part of the village.

The Village Board will nominate, interview and vote on applicants.

Mike Nieft has officially joined the Village Board after he registered as a write-in candidate in District 5 in Howard and 195 people put him down on their ballot. Howard had an overall 45% voter turnout in the election, with 6,340 ballots cast.

Howard is also seeking someone to fill an empty role as municipal judge. A law degree isn’t required for the position, according to a news release.

Former Howard municipal judge Brian Stevens resigned this year after serving seven years since he was elected in 2019. He is starting a job at the Wisconsin State Public Defenders office in May.

Village officials will start reviewing applications May 7, so residents should apply before then. The applications can be found at villageofhoward.com.

Email applications and resumes to Muraski at jmuraski@villageofhoward.com or mail them to Village Hall, 2456 Glendale Ave.
