Tornado warning in effect until 4:15 in Stephenson County

The National Weather Service has declared a tornado warning for Stephenson County until 4:15 CDT.

The weather service warns people to “TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.”

The warning covers eastern Jo Daviess County, northeastern Carroll County, and Stephenson County.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Willow at 3:27 p.m., moving east at 30 m.p.h.

Beware of a tornado and ping pong ball size hail, the weather service said. ” lying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely. “

The weather service noted the path of the storm:

3:30 p.m.: Lena, Pearl City, Loran, Kent, Eleroy, Willow, and Waddams Grove

3:35 p.m. Lake Le-Aqua-na State Park and Bolton

3:40 p.m. Freeport, Scioto Mills, and Damascus

3:45 p.m. Cedarville and Red Oak

Other locations in the path of this tornadic thunderstorm include Buena Vista, Mc Connell, Stephenson County Fairgrounds, Albertus Airport, Dakota Dornink Airport, Winneshiek, Dakota and Afolkey.
