The incident began in Inkster around 2:45 p.m. near Middlebelt and Parkwood when members of the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team and Second District Special Investigation Section were executing a search warrant on a home in Inkster as part of a homicide investigation.

A man exited the home and entered an SUV with a female passenger. Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the SUV when the driver fled.

A pursuit began, and the suspect continued to flee eastbound on Parkwood, running a red light at Oakwood and striking a passenger car. The suspect ran a short distance when shots were fired, MSP officials said.

The suspect was struck in the lower body and was transported to a local hospital, where he is in stable condition. Two firearms were located by police.

The male driver of the vehicle that was struck was pronounced dead on the scene from injuries sustained in the traffic crash, MSP officials said.

The troopers involved in the shooting are being placed on administrative leave per departmental policy. Once the investigation is completed, it will be submitted to the Attorney General for review.
