BRIGHTON TWP. — A popular touchless car and pet wash brand is planning a renovation and addition in Brighton Township.
The Brighton Township Planning Commission voted April 13 to approve a special land use application and site plan for Vortex Car Wash at 5235 S. Old US-23. The business is planning a 371-square-foot addition over two bays at the former Gorilla Auto Wash.
David Le Clair of Livingston Engineering and Joe Pacut, owner of Vortex Car Wash, addressed officials during a public hearing. Le Clair highlighted improvements to another Vortex at 524 W. Grand River Ave. in Brighton.
“(Pacut) has done a tremendous job with the facelift of that car wash and would love to do the same for this (one),” he said.
Le Clair said one bay will be an automated drive-thru and the other will be an extended wash for longer vehicles.
Planning Commissioner Allan Lutes motioned to approve the application with the condition Pacut develops a landscaping plan with Township Planner Kelly Mathews.
“I want it to look nice — that’s important to me,” Pacut said.
Lutes and Planning Commissioner Larry Herzinger said they appreciate the work Pacut has done with Vortex in Brighton.
“I want to do it right … I want the community to like it,” Pacut said. “It’s important to me. It’s got my name on it.”
There’s already a pet wash at 5235 S. Old US-23. Vortex has locations in Brighton, Brighton Township, Hamburg and Pinckney.
