DeLand mom caught trying to cross border with missing baby, cops say

A mother who left the DeLand area in December after a court ordered the Department of Children and Families to take custody of her daughter was arrested while trying to cross the U.S. border into Mexico with the child, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said April 3.

According to the sheriff’s office Facebook update of the case, U.S. Marshals arrested Doranalleli Gonzalez, 24, at the U.S.-Mexico border. Her 1-year-old daughter was with her, the sheriff’s office said.

The child was placed in the custody of Child Protective Services, according to the sheriff’s office.

The child’s father, Jose Castelano Campo, 27, has not been located, the social media post shows.

Sheriff: DeLand mother took child to evade abuse allegations

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office publicized a missing person’s flyer in December looking for Gonzalez and Campo, who were believed to have taken the child.

The parents were evading a court order that directed the DCF to take their child, the sheriff’s office said then.

In the April 3 update, the sheriff’s office said the case involving Gonzalez and Campo stemmed from allegations of potential child abuse.

The update did not say where Gonzalez was taken or what she was charged with.
