UCLA baseball swiftly overpowered Tennessee in a 12-5 thumping of the Volunteers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on Friday.
The Bruins played six different pitchers with junior Logan Reddemann leading the group with 5.1 innings for four hits, three runs and seven strikeouts. UCLA’s offense also played a strong game after a scoreless first inning with runs scored in the second, third, fourth and fifth while holding the Volunteers scoreless to put them up 5-0.
UCLA lost a bit of momentum in the sixth, giving up four runs and entering the seventh up by only one.
Junior outfielder Will Gasparino and junior infielder Roman Martin got UCLA back on track with two home runs in the top of the seventh. Martin’s was a grand slam. The Bruins scored five runs in a flash. UCLA would add one more run to end the seventh in full control.
Gasparino later added another homer to left field in the top of the ninth for the 12-5 final margin.
UCLA’s next game will be back at Globe Life Field against No. 23 Texas A&M on Saturday at 5 p.m. PT.
