“To our amazing customers and community, it is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Jabbers Hometown Grill will be closing its doors as of Sunday, February 15th 2026,” the statement read.

“This place has been more than just a restaurant—it’s been a home, a gathering spot, and a labor of love. We are incredibly grateful for every meal shared, every laugh, every celebration, and every ounce of support you’ve shown us over the years.”

“Thank you for allowing us to serve you and be a part of this community. We will forever cherish the memories made within these walls.”

The restaurant — known for its comfort-food menu, family-friendly vibe and small-town hospitality — did not disclose the reason for its closure

History of Jabbers

Greg and Joan Abernathy founded Jabbers restaurant more than two decades ago.

“My family formed Jabbers back in 2003 with the intention to have a family restaurant in the Groves. They took pride in knowing all the families and watching families grow in the community,” Michael Abernathy told FLORIDA TODAY.

Michael Abernathy and his wife, Brittney, took over the restaurant on April 7, 2014 — just a day after returning from their honeymoon — following a decade spent watching Michael’s father and stepmother run the business.

They operated Jabbers for the next five years but ultimately chose to sell it to non-family members as they prepared to welcome their second child, hoping to devote more time to their growing family.

What does the future hold for Jabbers? Commenters on social media have encouraged the Abernathy’s to buy back the restaurant. “We would consider it for the right price,” Michael Abernathy said,
