Goldenvoice, the concert promoter behind the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, has been busy this week.
Since Monday, Jan. 26, the festival’s social media accounts have released a new stage lineup each day, starting with the EDM audience’s highly anticipated Quasar stage lineup, then the lineups for the Yuma tent, the Sonora tent and most recently, on Jan. 29, the Do LaB lineup.
But, as a community newspaper that loves to cover the festival but doesn’t exclusively cover music, we have to admit: there’s lots of names on these announcements that we’re not familiar with. The tent that will require us the most research, arguably, is the Sonora, which tends to include a lot of the festival’s rock acts (including alternative, punk, metal, new wave and various other subgenres).
This year’s lineup, which you can find below, includes famed punk band Black Flag in its latest iteration, but other than that, it’s a lot of acts that we’re doing some homework on (like cumbia orchestra Los Hermanos Flores, which we’ve learned is arguably the most famous band to come from El Salvador).
So, who are you most excited to see at the Sonora (or any of the tents, for that matter)? Send us a note at NKottmann@palmspri.gannett.com so we can make a note of which bands our readers deem a must-see.
And while you’ve got your festival hat on, let’s take a trip back in time to the last few years of Coachella. Who was the best act that you’ve seen at the Sonora since the festival’s post-pandemic return?
From Coachella Valley natives Giselle Woo and the Night Owls and DannyLux’s festival premieres to Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap’s controversial political statement, the Sonora is home to countless memorable moments. Vote for your favorite recent Sonora act below:
