A missing Abilene resident was found deceased in Jones County on Wednesday, according to a media release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
At approximately 5 p.m. on Wednesday, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report by a local fisherman who had discovered a deceased individual in the Brazos River, the DPS said in the media release.
Authorities identified the body as that of a person from Abilene who had been reported missing to the Abilene Police Department earlier that day, the DPS said.
According to the media release, the Texas Rangers and the APD are assisting the Jones County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
The name of the deceased person was not in the DPS media release.
“This case remains an active investigation, and no further information is available at this time,” the DPS said. “Anyone with information is asked to please come forward by contacting law enforcement.”
