Things to do in the Milwaukee area this weekend, including N/A Day

Start the first weekend of the new year with a museum visit, a beverage festival and a twirl on the ice. Here are things to do in the Milwaukee area Jan. 2-4.

Jewish Museum Milwaukee Community Free Day

The museum is offering free admission for Milwaukee County residents to view the “Violins of Hope: Strings of Jewish Resistance and Resilience” exhibit from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 2. The exhibit features 24 restored string instruments played by Jewish musicians before and during the Holocaust. See it before it closes on Jan. 25 at the Jewish Museum Milwaukee, 1360 N. Prospect Ave. More info: jewishmuseummilwaukee.org.

Milwaukee Record’s N/A Day

The annual nonalcoholic beverage festival will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Jan. 3 at The Cooperage, 822 S. Water St. The event features unlimited samples of nonalcoholic drinks provided by vendors representing local and national brands. This is the fifth year for the “Dry January” event aimed at promoting a sober start to the new year by increasing awareness of alternative options to alcohol. Tickets are $20 in advance at eventbrite.com or $30 at the door.

Skate the Slice of Ice

The downtown ice rink in Red Arrow Park, 920 N. Water St., opens at 10 a.m. with late-night skating until 11 p.m. Jan. 2 and Jan. 3 and 8 p.m. Jan. 4. Skating is free for those who bring their own skates. Rentals of skates, skater aids and ice sleds are available. The warming house will be open offering hot beverages for purchase. Deck the Streets and Village at Milwaukee Public Museum

Warm up indoors and restore your festive cheer at the Milwaukee Public Museum’s “Deck the Streets and Village” holiday exhibits. Walk the Streets of Old Milwaukee and the European Village adorned with traditional winter decoration on view through January at the museum, 800 W. Wells St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Museum admission required. See mpm.edu/celebrate-holidays-mpm.
