FSU has reached out to elite Syracuse WR Calvin Russell

The FSU Seminoles have built one of the best wide receiver classes in the country, signing four wideouts during the early signing period, with another two committed and expected to join the class. They might not be done, though, and are reportedly working to flip one of the top wideouts in the country.

Four-star wide receiver Calvin Russell has been committed to the Syracuse Orange since July and was set to sign with them on Wednesday, but that is no longer the plan. He announced that he won’t sign with them on Wednesday as he needs more time about his decision.

Russell told Marcus Benjamin of Rivals that FSU is among the three schools that have been reaching out and that staying in the state of Florida is a factor. Pete Nakos of On3 initially said on social media that Michigan and Miami are factors, but later added that Miami is not a factor. He told Benjamin that he expects to make a decision either Thursday or Friday.

The Seminoles were a major factor in Russell’s recruitment when he committed to Syracuse, hosting him on multiple visits this year, including an official visit, and were one of his finalists, along with the Oregon Ducks, Michigan Wolverines, and the Orange.

He is ranked as the No. 52 overall player and No. 7 wide receiver in the Rivals industry ranking. He is also the No. 6 player from Florida. If FSU is able to pull off the flip, he would become their second-highest-ranked commit, behind cornerback Chauncey Kennon.
