PANAMA CITY BEACH ― A Gulf-front home turned local landmark is finally being demolished.
On Sept. 23, crews began demolishing the iconic tilted house in Panama City Beach that has become a local attraction. It sits at 5101 Gulf Drive. Here’s what we know:

Why was the home tilted?
A tornado ripped through the east end of the Beach in January 2024. It knocked the home from its foundations and wedged it between the two neighboring residences. It has sat at its current angle ever since.
Since the 2024 tornado, the tilted home has become an internet phenomenon. At the demolition site, locals and visitors stood around watching as an excavator bored into its facade.
Has this happened before?
Past reports indicate this is not the first time the home as fallen.
It also fell during Hurricane Michael, a Category 5 storm that hit Bay County in October 2018.
Where do things stand now?
According to documents from the Bay County Clerk of Courts, there is an ongoing lawsuit between the owner of the tilted house and the neighbors.
The initial complaint alleges demolition was slated to occur in March 2024. However, the neighbors said that was delayed after they were “ambushed” with demands that they waive all liability for damage during the demolition process.
They declined, and the property was not demolished. The tall, narrow home is sandwiched between neighboring properties without much space in between.
A Bay County spokesperson said all three homes involved are uninhabitable.
