Moeller volleyball wins share of GCL-South for first time since 2021

A four-set win on the road at Elder on April 17 helped clinch at least a share of the Greater Catholic League-South title for the Moeller Crusaders volleyball team.

Moeller (10-3, 4-0 GCL-S) beat Elder (11-3, 2-2 GCL-S) 25-20, 25-15, 19-25, 25-19 to win its first GCL-South crown since splitting it with Elder in 2021. That season, Moeller won the first of three-straight state championships from 2021 to 2023.

This conference crown is the first under third-year head coach Casey Pieper.

“I’m more excited with how good those guys played,” Pieper said. “That is a team that is ready to take the rest of the state by storm.”

Moeller can clinch the outright title in the conference for the first time since 2018 by beating either La Salle on April 23 or St. Xavier on May 1. Moeller came into the match with Elder having lost to both the Panthers and St. Xavier in the Centerville Elite on April 11, but those matches do not count towards conference standings.
