A person was fatally struck by a train in west Simi Valley on Sept. 24.
The Ventura County Fire and Simi Valley Police departments responded to the train tracks near the 2000 block of Donville Avenue shortly before 9:45 a.m. after a report of someone being hit by a Metrolink train, police Sgt. Brian Murray said.
The tracks are located behind the Wendy’s restaurant on East Los Angeles Avenue, west of Erringer Road.
Metrolink Train 107 was heading westbound toward its final destination in Moorpark when it hit a person on the tracks, said Metrolink spokesperson Meredith Yeoman. Four passengers were on board the train, and no injuries were reported among them.
The person was not at a designated crossing when struck, Yeoman said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the identity has been withheld pending notification of next of kin, authorities said. The person was reportedly lying on the tracks, and police believe the death could have been a suicide, Murray said.
Metrolink Train 111 was expected to hold at Chatsworth while eastbound Train 115 will also hold while authorities investigate.
The police department is investigating the incident.
