The ROC City Skatepark may be seeing some new additions soon as the Rochester City Council is set to vote on agreements and funds for Phase 2 of the project on Sept. 24.
The skatepark is located under the Frederick Douglass-Susan B. Anthony Memorial Bridge along the Genesee Riverway Trail.
The public space invites skateboarders, rollerbladers, BMXers and other sports enthusiasts to enjoy the area.
Rochester City Skatepark expansion moves forward
Mayor Malik Evans announced in January 2023 how the skatepark project will advance through the next phase as Rochester received a $3 million grant from the New York State Department of State.
The project is a part of the ROC the Riverway Initiative, a program with the intention to enhance public spaces, improve access to waterfront amenities and promote economic development.
The second phase of the project includes an additional 20,000 square feet of skate area, an event area and site amenities.
When will the enlarged Rochester skatepark be finished?
The council is set to vote on the following agreements:
Construction for the project is set to begin in Fall 2025 and is expected to be completed by Fall 2026.
