College football analyst Josh Pate picks USC to finish 9-3 this fall

USC’s 2025 football season kicks off in just a few days! With the start of the year just around the corner, lots of preseason predictions are now coming in.

On Tuesday, prominent college football analyst Josh Pate released his record predictions for every Big Ten team. Pate has the Trojans going 9-3 in 2025.

That record would be good for fifth-best in the conference. Ahead of USC, he has Penn State and Oregon both going 11-1 and Ohio State and Nebraska each finishing 10-2.

9-3 would certainly be a significant improvement from last season for the Trojans. At a program like USC, however, nine-win seasons are not generally something to celebrate. So while most USC fans would likely be at least somewhat encouraged by a 9-3 campaign, they are certainly hoping that the Trojans can do even better than that this fall.

The good news is that USC’s schedule to start the season is quite soft. With the Trojans’ first four games coming against Missouri State, Georgia Southern, Purdue, and Michigan State, they have zero excuse not to be 4-0 going into a three-game stretch vs. Illinois, Michigan, and Notre Dame that has a very good chance to define their season.
