Designworks is planning to help furnish Door County Habitat for Humanity’s milestone 50th home build. A groundbreaking was held May 28 for the future home of the Bridget and Dean Ferron family in Sturgeon Bay.

To raise funds for furnishing the new Habitat home, Designworks started a raffle with tickets on sale in their store through the end of August and all proceeds going to that effort. The winner has the choice of a MotionCraft genuine leather recliner valued at $3,750 or a $1,000 gift certificate to the Designworks store.

While Designworks has been involved with helping furnish projects for other nonprofit organizations, this is the first time it’s done so for a home, co-owner Polly Helm said.

“It’s always something we wanted to do,” she said.

Designworks designer and project manager Lindsey Penning told the Advocate the plan is to first focus on the main living area, equipping it with furniture, accessories and possibly art and decor. If more funds are available after that, they could be used to help furnish other parts of the home, such as the bedrooms.

“This collaboration is about more than furniture. It’s about creating a warm, welcoming space that turns a house into a home,” Penning said in a news release. “We’re honored to support Habitat’s mission and invite the community to join us in giving back.”

Representatives from Door Habitat and Designworks also will hold a brat fry in the parking lot Designworks shares with sister company Door County Nature Works during Egg Harbor Sidewalk Sale Days on Aug. 23. They also are popping up at selected Sunset Concert Series shows Sunday nights at the outdoor Peg Egan Performing Arts Center.

Raffle tickets are $20 each or six for $100 and available at Designworks, 7798 State 42, Egg Harbor. The drawing will take place Sept. 1. For more information, go to the store, call 920-868-3042 or visit designworksdoorcounty.com.
