Stetson is on the board in the 2025 MLB Draft.
With the 116th overall selection in the fourth round, the San Francisco Giants snatched shortstop Lorenzo Meola on Monday, July 14. He is the first Hatter chosen since Christian Pregent and Austin Amaral in 2023.
The slot value for the 116th pick is 654,700.
Before the draft, MLB.com ranked Meola as the 183rd best prospect available. Here’s what brings to the Giants organization.
What does Lorenzo Meola bring to the San Francisco Giants?
Meola has enjoyed a three-year rise in DeLand.
Since arriving at Stetson as a freshman, he has manned the shortstop position, and his batting numbers have improved each season.
To cap his sophomore season, he helped the Hatters secure their conference title and gain entry into the NCAA Tournament by winning the ASUN Tournament MVP award. He followed that by earning the ASUN Defensive Player of the Year award and cracking the All-ASUN First Team as a junior. Stetson once again slid into the national bracket as league co-champions.
In 56 games, the 21-year-old cruised to a .324 batting average and .934 OPS. He posted 11 home runs, 43 RBIs, 48 runs and 10 stolen bases. His home run total, batting average and OPS represented new career highs.
Meola, who bats and throws right-handed, collected a .982 fielding percentage last season.
He participated in the MLB Draft Combine last month.
