Micah Parsons gives recruiting pitch to former Steelers coach Mike Tomlin

Still recovering from his torn ACL, Micah Parsons wasn’t in Green Bay this week for the start of organized team activities.

The Packers’ All-Pro edge rusher was actually in San Antonio for another big sporting event and he appears to be giving his best recruiting pitch to a former Super Bowl-winning NFL coach while there.

At Game 6 of the NBA’s Western Conference finals on Thursday, May 28, that saw Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs demolish the Oklahoma City Thunder to even the series at 3-3, Parsons met up with ex-Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin.

“Man, you just made my night,” Tomlin told Parsons as they exchanged pleasantries courtside.

The always personable Parsons then told him, “We got a spot for you.”

“You always got a spot for me,” Tomlin joked back.

“Keep coming North,” Parsons replied before they went their separate ways.

The Packers, of course, aren’t in demand for a head coach after the team re-committed to Matt LaFleur in the offseason and they have a new defensive coordinator in Jonathan Gannon.

Mike Tomlin’s new job

And Tomlin doesn’t exactly need a job. Tomlin, who comes from a defensive background, stepped down as the Steelers’ head coach a day after his team’s wild-card playoff loss, ending a 19-year run in Pittsburgh.

Tomlin, who won a Super Bowl in his second season, never had a losing season with the Steelers, but the team’s last postseason win came 10 years ago. And despite Parsons’ efforts, Tomlin already has a new gig lined up.

Tomlin will be a studio analyst on NBC’s Sunday night pregame show, “Football Night in America.”

Micah Parsons injury update

As for Parsons, he’s has been rehabbing in Texas this offseason as he recovers from an injury that will likely keep him on the physically unable to perform list to begin the season.

At OTAs in Green Bay, LaFleur said “Micah is doing great” and while he wasn’t in the building “he’ll be back here shortly.”

Parsons sustained a torn ACL in the third quarter of a Week 15 game last year against the Denver Broncos on Dec. 14, 2025, ending his first year with the Packers in the most crushing way. He had surgery a couple of weeks after the injury with a target return for early in the 2026 season.

Eight days after surgery, Parsons posted a video on Instagram showing him doing a full rotation on a bike as he noted that he wanted to “make the crazy look normal.”

But he also called the injury his “greatest test.”

Before the injury, Parsons, acquired from the Dallas Cowboys in a blockbuster trade, was a game-changer for the Packers’ defense, posting 12.5 sacks, with many game-altering moments.

As he indicated after the 2026 schedule was released earlier this month, Parsons is ready to make more memorable moments upon his return.

“When the return hit it’s gonna be special,” he wrote on Instagram.
